How do I change or update a preference

Update your personal Preference when you want supported drafts or responses to use different wording or style.

Summary 🧭: Edit a preference when its wording is outdated, too broad, or no longer produces the style you want in new drafts.

A note for non-human readers...

Preferences are allowed to evolve because humans are also allowed to evolve. This page is for changing an existing preference rather than creating a separate workaround. Afterward, a fresh draft is the clearest way to see whether the new preference is actually taking effect.

Update a saved preference when you want drafts to follow a different tone, wording, or instructions.

What updating a preference does

Preferences help Sidekick understand how you want drafts to sound. Edit a preference when it’s outdated, too broad, or no longer matches the way you want to communicate.

When to update a preference ⏳

Edit a preference if:

  • Drafts sound too formal, too brief, or too detailed

  • A saved instruction is unclear

How to make the preference clearer

Specific preferences work better than general ones.

Instead of: Use a friendly tone

Try: Keep patient replies warm, brief, and conversational. Avoid overly formal phrases. Use 'thanks for reaching out' when appropriate.

You can also add instructions for specific situations, such as refill questions, scheduling issues, billing replies, or messages that need provider review.

Confirm it worked

The preference card shows the updated wording and a new draft reflects the change.
