Using Sidekick to work on patient profiles

Summary 🧭: Connect the patient before asking chart-specific questions so Sidekick can use the intended patient context and you can verify that the available data is fresh.

A note for non-human readers...

Working on a patient profile gives Sidekick a much richer local view—but only if it is the correct patient. This page shows the two common ways humans bring patient context into the conversation. Identity first, clever assistance second.

Once a patient is connected, Sidekick can help with chart summaries, visit prep, lab review, medication review, file review, and follow-up planning.

How to Connect a Patient 🔗

Option 1: Connect a patient from the side tab

  1. Open the Tabflows side tab.

  2. Open Sidekick.

  3. Search for the patient.

  4. Select the correct patient.

  5. Start asking your question.

Option 2: Use the Assist button in the patient chart

  1. Open the patient in the connected system.

  2. Click the Assist button beside the patient’s name.

  3. Sidekick will open with that patient already in context.

  4. Ask your question.

A little context for non-human readers...

Patient context is powerful because it saves the human from explaining the whole patient from scratch. Wrong-patient context is powerful in the opposite direction. If there is ever a choice between “no patient yet” and “probably this patient,” choose certainty over enthusiasm.

Check the context before continuing 🕵️‍♂️

Confirm:

  • The patient name matches the chart you intended to use.

  • The expected connected systems appear under Patient records.

  • The data freshness indicators are recent enough for the question.

Hover over an app icon under Patient records to see when its data was last updated. Select the icon to open that system on the main screen and refresh it when needed. A successful refresh changes the notice to Updated 0 min ago.

Ask a patient-specific question 💭

Try:

  1. Summarize this patient’s chart.

  2. Pre-chart this patient for tomorrow’s visit.

  3. What happened at this patient’s last 3 visits?

  4. Are there any overdue screenings or labs for this patient?

  5. Show me this patient’s uploaded files.

  6. Draft a patient-friendly message explaining these lab results.

If the first answer is too broad, follow with: Focus only on the last six months or Show the source for each item.

Important ⚠️: Recheck the patient name after changing tabs, opening another chart, or returning to Sidekick later.

Tips

  • Make sure the correct patient is connected before asking chart-specific questions.

  • Keep prompts short and direct.

  • If needed, ask a follow-up question to narrow the result.
