How to connect the right patient in mobile Sidekick

Summary 🧭: Search for and confirm the correct patient before asking chart-specific questions. Mobile Sidekick does not automatically know which EHR chart is open on another device.

A note for non-human readers...

A phone does not inherit “who I was looking at on desktop” by telepathy. Patient context on mobile is something to select and verify deliberately. Similar names are clues, not identity; if the record is uncertain, stop before relying on patient-specific information.

Connect a patient on mobile 🔗

  1. Open Sidekick on your phone.

  2. Tap the patient selector below the prompt box.

  3. Search for the patient.

  4. Select the correct result.

  5. Confirm the patient name before asking your question.

Why this matters

On desktop, the Tabflows Chrome extension can sometimes pass context from the active patient chart into Sidekick. A phone browser does not have that extension connection.

That means you should select the patient directly in mobile Sidekick before asking about a chart, file, lab, medication, visit, or follow-up plan.

Important ⚠️: Never assume Sidekick is using the patient you viewed earlier. Recheck the selected patient after starting a new chat, returning to an older conversation, or switching between patients.

Check the context before continuing 🕵️

Confirm:

  • The patient's name matches the person you intend to review.

  • The question is about that patient.

  • The expected information or file is available.

  • Dates and details are recent enough for the decision you are making.

If the patient is wrong, clear the selection and choose the correct patient before continuing.

Ask a focused patient question

Try:

  • Summarize this patient's recent history.

  • What happened at the last three visits?

  • Find uploaded files from the last year.

  • List documented medication changes.

  • Draft a concise handoff for this patient.

If the result is too broad, narrow it by date, source, or topic.

Example 📖: Focus on results from the last six months and show the source for each item.

If information is missing

Sidekick can only use information available through Tabflows and the connected sources it can access. It cannot read a live EHR page from your phone.

If the needed information is only visible in an EHR tab, use desktop Chrome with the Tabflows extension or attach the relevant file to the mobile conversation.

Important ⚠️: Verify clinical information against the original source before using it for patient care.
