Referral Assist helps turn patient context into a referral draft inside Elation. The letter may be generated quickly; the patient facts and clinical meaning still deserve human review. Drafting assistance is not permission to invent a diagnosis, history, or referral reason.
The letter body is a paragraph you have written hundreds of times.
When Referral Assist appears 🩺
Referral Assist is:
Available in Elation’s referral pane.
Opt-in and enabled at the clinic level.
Shown as a REFERRAL ASSIST chip with the Tabflows mark.
Hidden when Hide smart buttons is on.
It reads the open chart to determine whether the context supports a referral suggestion.
Where will you see it 📍
As a banner chip labeled "REFERRAL ASSIST", carrying the Tabflows mark. You don't install it; Tabflows presents it with the pane.
What happens when you press it ⚡
Referral Assist drafts a suggested specialty and a complete referral letter body from the current chart context. Press "Insert referral letter" and the letter lands in Elation's referral form.
What do you see while it runs 🔭
The chip reports each step — "Will draft…", then drafting, then inserting. On success: "Letter inserted — select the To contact manually."
If the chart doesn't point to a referral, it says so instead: "No referral suggested from the current chart context."
What won't it do on its own 🛡️
Referral Assist drafts and inserts. That is all it does. The letter sits in your Elation form, where you read it, edit it, pick the To contact, and send it the way you always have. It does not send, fax, or submit the referral.
I don't see the button 🎛️
Two things hide this chip, and neither is a bug: Referral Assist isn't enabled for your clinic, or the "Hide smart buttons" setting is on — unlike the other two Magic Buttons, this chip is covered by that setting.
