Draft Assist helps the human begin with a useful reply instead of a blinking cursor. The draft can only be as grounded as the context available to it, so check the intended patient and relevant clinic information before treating fluent wording as factual certainty.
What is Draft Assist? 📝
Draft Assist is a one-click drafting feature available in every patient conversation inside supported messaging platforms like Spruce.
Open a patient conversation and within seconds a complete reply draft appears in the right panel — written with the patient's full history already factored in. It pulls data points from the patient's entire history across systems, checks files in their chart, scans your clinic knowledge base, and explains its reasoning before you send a single word.
Important ⚠️: Draft Assist never sends a message for you. You review, edit, and send the final reply.
How to use Draft Assist 🚀
Open a patient conversation in Spruce.
Click Generate above the message box.
If auto-generation is enabled, a draft may appear automatically.
Review the suggested reply in the right panel.
Click Insert to add it to the message box.
Make any edits needed, then send when ready.
Controlling how Draft Assist behaves 🎛️
You can adjust Draft Assist settings in the Tabflows sidebar under Settings → Assist:
Toggle | What it does |
Hide smart buttons | Hides the Draft Assist button entirely across all conversations |
Disable auto-generation | When on, Draft Assist waits for you to click Generate rather than generating automatically when you open a conversation |
By default, Draft Assist auto-generates when you open a Spruce conversation. If you'd rather trigger it manually, toggle on Disable auto-generation.
Personalize how your drafts sound
Personalization controls how Draft Assist writes, not when it appears.
To add a preference:
Open Settings → Personalization.
Select Your Preferences.
Click Add Preference.
Add a short title and a specific instruction.
Click Create.
Generate a new draft to test it.
Preferences can guide:
Tone and warmth
Preferred length
Directness
Greetings and closings
Phrases to use or avoid
How next steps should appear
Example 📖: Keep patient replies warm and brief. Avoid overly formal language, and end with a clear next step.
Specific instructions work better than broad requests such as sound more human.
What Draft Assist checks before writing 🔬
Patient data points from the complete history across systems
Uploaded patient files and clinical records
The full conversation thread across all messages
Your clinic's knowledge base
Every Task in Tabflows related to the patient
If clinical details are limited, Draft Assist drafts a safe, appropriate response rather than inventing information.
Personalize how Draft Assist sounds
Preferences can help supported drafts better match the way you like to communicate. You can save instructions for things such as tone, length, terminology, greetings, sign-offs, and how next steps should appear.
Preferences shape how a draft is written. They do not make missing patient facts available, replace clinic policy, or override the patient and clinic context Draft Assist uses. If a Preference conflicts with the source information available for the patient or clinic, review the source information and correct the draft before sending.
Review before sending 🕵️
Check the draft for:
Clinical accuracy
Appropriate tone
Correct patient context
A clear next step
Details that should not be included
